How Ozone Works
Odour control with ozone: a natural and effective solution
Glacier Ozone generators effectively reduce odour nuisance by acting on the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) responsible for unpleasant smells. Unlike air fresheners, which mask odours, ozone oxidizes and neutralizes odour molecules.
How does the clean ozone system work?
Conversion of oxygen into active ozone
Ambient air is composed of oxygen (O₂), which is made up of two oxygen atoms. The Glacier system blows this air over a specialized UV lamp that produces a precise wavelength, transforming O₂ into ozone (O₃):
- An O₂ molecule is split by the UV light.
- A third oxygen atom is added.
- This new atom forms ozone — a highly reactive molecule.
Targeted action on contaminants
Ozone acts quickly by reacting with specific odorous molecules (VOCs). This oxidation reaction helps neutralize stubborn odours in demanding environments.
- Pierces the cell membrane of micro‑organisms
- Deactivates biological contaminants
- Neutralizes stubborn odours, even in the most demanding environments
After its action, ozone gradually decomposes into oxygen. In specific environments, secondary by-products may form, which is why adequate ventilation and compliance with exposure standards are essential.
